Meet our Panelists
Dr. Felicia Knaul - She is Director of the Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas and Professor at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. She is a health and social sector economist who has worked extensively in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her research focuses on global health, health financing, health systems and reform, cancer, access to pain control and palliative care, poverty and inequity, and gender equity. She currently chairs the Lancet Commission on Gender-based Violence and Maltreatment of Young People. From 2014-2017, Knaul served as Chair of the Lancet Commission on Global Access to Palliative Care and Pain Relief and lead authored its October 2017 report. She is a member of several institutional boards, including the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care.
Dr. Amanda Alladin - She is a Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Attending at UM/JMH Holtz Children's Hospital. She has been a member of the hospital's Pediatric Palliative Care Team for the past 7 years. Her interest in palliative care grew out of both personal and medical experiences in varied settings, the first of which was being a house officer in Pediatrics and Neonatology in her home country of Trinidad and Tobago. She is passionate about educating residents and fellows on adaptation of primary palliative care as well as the value of specialty palliative care in the pediatric ICU.
Dr. Mariana Khawand-Azoulai - She is the associate program director for the hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program and also serves as the director for palliative medicine at Uhealth. She is interested in early integration of palliative care, with a special focus on outpatient palliative care, symptom management and advance care planning. She currently provides outpatient and inpatient palliative care consultations at Uhealth, and also works in the VITAS inpatient hospice unit.
