Meet our Panelists
Chaplain Figueroa - Hector Figueroa is a Protestant Chaplain serving presently in the VA Hospital in Miami, Florida. He received his Clinical Pastoral Education at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he served as Resident and staff Chaplain for over ten years. He has a Masters of Divinity degree from Liberty University out of Lynchburg Virginia. He is married, has three grown children and two grandchildren. He believes every human being has the right of being cared in whatever way possible.
Dr. Sarah Bland - Dr. Bland is a graduate of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's six-year combined B.S./M.D. Honors Program in Medical Education. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and then served as Chief Medical Resident at Jackson Memorial Hospital. After residency, she joined the faculty of the University of Miami Regional Medical Campus and remained on staff at JFK Medical Center for over ten years. Most of this time was spent in Graduate Medical Education and clinical medicine, largely as a primary care provider. She became the Associate Clerkship Director for the Integrated Medicine Clerkship in 2015 before taking over as the Clerkship Director in 2019. She is also the Subinternship Director at the UM/JFK Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program. She currently serves as the NextGenMD Phase 2 Co-Director, and became the Chair of University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's LCME Leadership Team in 2020.
Dr. Patricia Cantwell - G. Patricia Cantwell, MD, FCCM is Professor and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Holtz Children’s Hospital/University of Miami. She spearheaded the formation of the Holtz Children’s Hospital Pediatric Palliative Care Team in 2008. Dr. Cantwell provides medical oversight of the Holtz Children’s Hospital PediPals Team, an interdisciplinary palliative care initiative. She received her medical degree at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine/Wake Forest University, completed her pediatric residency at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital; and pursued her Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at the Jackson Memorial Hospital and remained on the attending staff since 1990. Dr. Cantwell has received multiple awards for teaching. She has been a Medical Manager for the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue South Florida Task Force 2 since 1994. She has deployed with this team numerous times including to the 2001 World Trade Center, multiple hurricane responses and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake.
